Cine Casual Launches Community Class Exploring Latin American History Through Cinema

Charlotte, NC – Cine Casual, the renowned organization championing Latin American cinema, is excited to announce its inaugural 8-week community class, beginning February 25, 2025. This program invites Latinx individuals—immigrants and U.S.-born alike—to engage with their histories and explore their community’s evolution in the United States through the lens of popular Latin American films.
Participants will critically analyze films that portray key moments and central figures from twentieth-century and contemporary Latin American history. By treating these films as cultural constructions, attendees will uncover the context of their production and the historical events they depict. The class fosters discussions on how cinema reflects and shapes diverse perspectives on Latin American history, encouraging thoughtful dialogue and community connection.
“We are thrilled to offer a space where participants can deepen their understanding of our shared histories while connecting through the power of cinema,” said Giovanna Torres, Director of Cine Casual.
This program is made possible with support from North Carolina Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
